Christmas Shopaholic (Shopaholic #9)

Published October 15th 2019 by Bantam Press, Paperback 384 pages

Celebrate Christmas with the ultimate Shopaholic!

The brilliant laugh-out-loud festive novel from the Number One bestselling author.

Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) adores Christmas. It's always the same – Mum and Dad hosting, carols playing, Mum pretending she made the Christmas pudding, and the next-door neighbours coming round for sherry in their terrible festive jumpers.

And now it's even easier with online bargain-shopping sites – if you spend enough you even get free delivery. Sorted!

But this year looks set to be different. Unable to resist the draw of craft beer and smashed avocado, Becky's parents are moving to ultra-trendy Shoreditch and have asked Becky if she'll host Christmas this year. What could possibly go wrong?

With sister Jess demanding a vegan turkey, husband Luke determined that he just wants aftershave again, and little Minnie insisting on a very specific picnic hamper – surely Becky can manage all this, as well as the surprise appearance of an old boyfriend and his pushy new girlfriend, whose motives are far from clear . . .

Will chaos ensue, or will Becky manage to bring comfort and joy to Christmas?

You know that friend that you go years without contact, yet you are so comfortable that you pick right up where you left off? Well that is me with Becky Brandon (Bloomwood). This girl has seen me through some hard times! I have missed Becky and her outgoing, quirky, sometimes socially unacceptable personality. I was so excited to see a new Shopaholic book and a Christmas one at that!

So for those of you who don't know Becky- there is a whole series, except this is a perfect stand alone. No need to read the previous books, except you will want to after you read this! I think I read my first Shopaholic book in 2000. Honestly I completely forgot about the series since I have not read any in years, this was literally like going back in time. Very nostalgic, it was like indulging in some comfort food for the soul.

Back to Becky! This girl is like a Bridget Jones with more fashion style and an addiction to shopping. Becky believes in buying everything in excess, no matter what it is. Why order one turkey when you can order three- just in case...in case what I don't know, but this is how Becky rolls.

When Becky is nominated by the family to host Christmas, it throws her into a buying frenzy. As always, the crazy antics continue...she loves to send random letters and the responses are always hilarious. From 30 lbs of frozen salmon on the front lawn, to getting locked in a pet store with loose hamsters- Becky never disappoints. Fingers crossed for another Becky book soon!!

Thank you so much to the publisher Random House for this adorable, fun ARC! Thanks so much for Sophie Kinsella for turning out another great Shopaholic book! We love Becky!!!

Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? No? Have you even started?
Meet Becky. She’s a gal that flat-out lives for shopping! All day...every day! And when Christmas rolls around? Well, you can just imagine! She’s in seventh heaven and her shopping mania jumps right off the charts!

This year, Becky has something new to contribute other than wonderful presents. She’s been handed the awesome family task of making Christmas dinner with all the fixings and events for the day. She’s head-over-heels to take on this mighty challenge, but quickly discovers she’s in way over her head! First issue, she can’t stay focused, worrying she might miss a great deal if she isn’t watching for it.
But all her friends and family have requests and suggestions on what they would like at the dinner. And good ole’ Becky is determined to do it all, as to not upset anyone.

This is book 9 of the shopaholic series, (love that name) but it’s a first for me. I admit I did have a bit of trouble warming up to Becky. I thought she was over the top and grew annoyed with her at times. “Come on Becky! Focus!” Once I realized she wasn’t going to listen to me, I sat back, went for the ride and enjoyed her quirkiness.

Turns out Becky is a delightful, kind, loving and a hilarious character! I grew to love her and was rooting for the best Christmas ever!

A super fun laugh out loud read! I’m a new fan to the series and will be watching for the
next release!

A buddy read with Susanne!🎄

SHE is BACK!!! Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is one of my all-time favorite characters and she was as hilarious and brilliant as ever in this festive story. I was so excited to spend time with Becky it was like catching up with an old friend. I have read and loved every book in this series and while some have been better than others this one was an absolute treat!‘tis the season to be shopping and Becky could not be happier! She barely even bats an eyelash when it is dropped on her that she will be hosting Christmas this year. Becky of course starts making a list and checking it twice, there are lots of things to be done and purchased before the holidays. And in typical Becky fashion more is always better, why have one turkey when you can have three? Becky has grown up somewhat over the course of the series but she has never lost her charm or whimsy! From the creation of a new Norwegian word, to an ex-boyfriend and multiplayer sex. From fighting to join an “old boy billiard club, to60 pounds of fish on the front yard. From hunting down and escaped hamster to an adorable Christmas performance. This book had me smiling and laughing so much that my face hurt.

If you are a fan of this series this is an absolute must! If you have not read the series yet, what are you waiting for? This is Sophie Kinsella at her finest! A delightful lighthearted story that is guaranteed to fill you with the holiday spirit! Fa la la la la la shopaholic!

I finished this book yesterday and guys, I loved it so much!! 💛

I know I am two years behind, and the only excuse why I haven't picked up it earlier is that I wanted to read it during Christmas time and after not loving the previous installment, I kept putting this one off in fear I wouldn't like it either.

I am glad to say it wasn't the case, and I had a blast hanging out with Becky and her gang again (and with my friend Amanda who I buddy read this with) in preparation for Holly Jolly Christmas.

In case you didn't know, I am in love with Christmas, so having a festive book in the series that got me into reading in the first place is just... the best thing ever!

I think readers of Shopaholic series will enjoy this novel, and although I can see how people who aren't familiar with it could have a fun time devouring Christmas Shopaholic, I would recommend to start from the beginning to get familiar with all the characters.

This was so funny, I think the author stayed true to Becky's character and reading the novel felt like meeting an old friend.

In the end, I just want to mention that my favourite chapter/scene was the one that took place in pet store. Pure entertainment that even kept me on the edge of my seat. 👍👍

A Fun, Light, Sweet, Enjoyable Read.

Who knew that simply reading about Shopping could be so Exhausting?! LOL. I forgot how much Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) likes to shop and actually felt guilty about the amount of money she was spending and it wasn’t my money! (Can we just say, Thank Goodness!?!?)

In “Christmas Shopaholic,” the Christmas season is quickly approaching and Becky finds bargain after bargain on the internet.. (at least they were “bargains” to her.. though I’m not quite convinced!).

Tis the season, till Becky finds herself in a pickle. Hosting Christmas. After her mother and father make the decision to move to Shoreditch. Shoreditch of all places! Leaving Becky to handle everything herself and being bombarded with requests from all of her family members and friends who are coming for Christmas Day. Of course, Becky has it all handled, though her shopping does tend to take over… just a tad.

“Christmas Shopaholic” was my second foray into the Shopaholic series, the first being “Confessions of a Shopaholic” - oh so many years ago and I must say that at first, this one overwhelmed me a bit as the only places I like to shop are bookstores - however Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) won me over. Her husband Luke, her family, her best friend and her daughter Minnie - they all simply add to her charm. I adored her desperate attempts to host the best Christmas ever - buying several different types of “trees,” her weight loss ‘attempts’ after buying an Alexander McQueen dress - perfect for Christmas, yet a few sizes too small because it was “on sale” and her efforts to sew a costume for her daughter Minnie’s Christmas Concert and her attempts to help a new friend. What won me over in the end, is how hard Becky tried at everything she did and those moments put a huge smile on my face and I think they will do the same for you!

Sophie Kinsella knows how to write light hearted, fun, sweet novels and I am really enjoying re-discovering her.

This was another buddy with Kaceey!

Sophie Kinsella delivers the perfect Christmas book. This was such a fun read. Becky is back and is hosting Christmas for her family for the first time. As expected, things go hilariously awry. Most women will laugh in recognition of the challenges in trying to pull off the perfect Christmas while dealing with the demands and special requests of family and friends. Vegan turkey anyone?

Mishaps and chaos ensues with hilarity as well as a lot of heart. I have the ARC but listened to the audio. British narrators are my favorite and this one was excellent.

Charming and hilarious, this is the perfect book to brighten the season and make you smile.

This book was, in one word, sprygge! A happy place, a comforting blanket, hot cocoa by the fireplace...

This is my favorite Shopaholic novel alongside the first book. The humor was off the charts, I chuckled almost at every page and, best of all, it was all wrapped in the Christmas spirit. Becky Brandon (neé Bloomwood) really comes back with a bang in this novel, she’s hilarious, most of the situations she gets herself into are incredibly funny, and being inside her head once more felt like seeing an old friend after a long time apart. Oh, dear, I have such a book hangover everything I’ll read after this doesn’t stand a chance. It’s so rare to find a book I completely adore like this one, but Christmas Shopaholic is one of the rare gems.

The emails, messages and Google searches at the beginning of the book and at the end of each chapter were such a special treat, I laughed my head off hysterically every single time.

On a final note, can we please get a spin-off story about Simon Millett? He’d be the most charmingly annoying leading man in a blue scarf.

Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is the ninth book in the contemporary romance, chicklit Shopaholic series. The series does follow one character, our Shopaholic Becky, and would probably be best to read in order from the beginning. However, being a late to the club but now a fan of Sophie Kinsella I did read and understand this one just fine as a standalone.

The title of this series will give readers a hint into the character of this series and her obsession with shopping and finding the latest bargain. This all holds true for Becky in this latest installment that catches up with her and her family and friends at Christmastime. After Becky’s parents have decided to move to a hip new neighborhood in a smaller place Becky finds herself tasked with organizing and hosting her first Christmas and wants it all to be perfect for everyone despite their differences.

Even though I went against my own rule of not jumping into an ongoing series with this one I still found myself absolutely enjoying it. I never felt lost or missing anything with the characters or story which is saying alot since I know the series has been around for quite a while. Instead I was quickly swept up in Becky’s craziness and laughing practically at each turn of a page. Sophie Kinsella has such quirky and fun characters that I couldn’t help but become a fan and of course I’ll look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Becky is hosting Christmas this year, and she has a long list of to-dos. Will she make it a success, or will it have a few bumps along the way in typical Becky fashion?

I laughed out loud, I smiled, and I hugged this book when it was all over. It was a total comfort read. If you are a fan of Becky, of holiday reads, or just want to experience a fun read, this is a must. There are plenty of holiday shenanigans along with all the zaniness we expect from our well-loved Becky. No one has a heart as big as her!

After being off the intertubes for a couple of weeks with the fam, Imma knock as many of these old reviews off the to-do list as possible before the end of the year when there becomes pretty much zero chance I’ll ever do a wrap up. Let’s start with what I read over my little Christmas staycay. Luckily, there’s not much since I kept finding myself falling down rabbit holes of reality television programs I have managed to avoid in the past but somehow winded up binge-watching in marathons over the last nine days such as . . . . .

I think Khloe might be my spirit animal. Fat Khloe, that is. The new Khloe wouldn’t sit around for seven hours in a row eating garbage like I kept doing.

I read Christmas Shopaholic on Christmas Eve and it was everything it was supposed to be. If you’re familiar, these books all sort of follow a zany, slapstick, over-the-top sort of storyline that covers whatever is going on in Becky Brandon née Bloomwood’s life. This time around it’s hosting her first giant family Christmas gathering. Per usual . . . . .

But this time around, Becky also discovers . . . .

This was exactly what I needed while I baked some last minute cookies and loafed around the house.

OK. Don't Panic. I've got five minutes fifty-two seconds before my basket expires. That's loads of time! All I have to do is quickly find one more item to bump up my total to 75 so I'll get free delivery.

Becky is a shopaholic, if you didn't know already. She is always on the hunt for great deals and always has to snag whatever is onsale. Designer coat for 80% off? Always going to buy it. New luggage set 75% off, even if her's is only 6 months old, gotta get it! When Becky finds out that she is going to host Christmas this year, her deal finding goes into overdrive.

As Becky is trying to put on the perfect Christmas and find the perfect gifts, she comes across a few bumps. An ex-boyfriend who she thinks is trying to seduce her, her sister distancing herself from the family, her mom's bff (who is like her Aunt) fighting with her mom. All Becky wants to do is throw the perfect Christmas and is trying to cater to everyone's Whatsapp Chat requests. So why does everyone suddenly start to bow out of coming to Christmas when Becky worked sooo hard?

I just love the Shopaholic series! Becky is laugh out loud funny and she is so extra. But that is what makes me love her so much. You cannot go into these books thinking this will be a serious story or heavy content. Although there are some topics in this particular book that can be heavy (adoption, divorce, etc.) Kinsella always writes in a way to make you feel good and reminds you to not always take yourself too seriously. She also reminds us maybe we don't want to be like Becky, except for some of the good deals she does get. Ha!

Overall, loved this one. I read it right before Christmas and it was the perfect time. If you need a feel good book - pick this one up! Thank you to The Dial Press for my ARC of this book!

Oh what a delight it is to read a Shopaholic book! It has been a while but it all came rushing back when I started reading. I devoured it in 2 sittings, laughing along with the characters and the situations. So much fun and perfect for the festive time of year.

Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) is back. When her parents suddenly move to an apartment in Shoreditch it falls on Becky to host Christmas. How hard can it be? Anybody that has done it knows that it is a constant battle to keep everyone happy and have it all ready on time. Her shopping adventures now happen online and it is a hilarious adventure of no stock and getting the bargains!
