Having sex to improve your Tao and gain immortality sounds kind of lit tbh

CW: Graphic violence, sexual content, dub con, age up trope (think Nell from Bleach)
This series has some pretty fantastic pacing, and even the slower moments are spent wisely. We get some answers about the island and it’s inhabitants, and we get to see a bit more out of each of our “newer characters”.
I was a bit disappointed this went the way of having an Age Up type character while also including weird comments about it. I get that the character is immortal and older than pretty much every person currently in the story minus a few, but it just hits wrong.
I am still loving the weird twist and turns this is taking, and the imagery is unsettling in a compelling way.

"those who have something to lose are powerful." 3.5/5i love how the magic in this world requires both strength and weakness to work, that's such an interesting concept. also, chobe and toma my new favorite evil siblings. on the other hand, gantetsusai is annoying as hell - sick of the guy who makes weird sexual comments about girls for comedic effect archetype in shounen manga.
(tw for attempted rape/dubious consent)

I really, really, REALLY like the pacing of this series. I was nervous when I heard the series ended and it would only be 13 volumes, but the pacing's been both tight yet quick that I have no doubt it could wrap up nicely at 13 volumes.
This volume was full to the brim with incredible fight scenes, and I loved the imagery in the fight between Chobe and Gabimaru. First off, that fight was dope to begin with, but that scene where Gabimaru is starting to remember his wife, she puts her hand on his shoulder, and he uses his aura to cut her arm off was SO cool. Shadows and paneling really make the fight scenes pop, though sometimes it can be hard to tell what's going on.
More worldbuilding is given and we finally get a better idea as to what the island is and why such strange events are occurring. I'm amazed that I never feel like the exposition is boring or is bogging down the story, despite there being a lot of exposition to dump. While I wouldn't say this is the most compelling story, the mystery-horror elements keep me engaged.
Anyway, this was another great volume in a series I'm shocked I love as much as I do. Well done, Kaku!

This manga continues to be very well-paced, the art continues to be amazing along with the interesting characters we're following.

Not a whole lot happening. Just a lot of explanations, but the gang is all back together with additions this time. Everyone is getting to know each other while still being suspicious.
"I am your dear friend and ally.. place your trust in me." 🥺
- Yuzuriha and Sagiri 👀👀
- Chobei... this is going in a weird direction. I don't know if I am a fan of this, but your character is interesting, so I hope you are kept around.
- Shugen you came around just at the end like 😠 and I'm like 🥰 lol. On a serious note though, he has a lot of Tao too, and I'm curious to know how much of a problem he is going to be.

Another really good volume of a crazy horror/action-packed/mystical adventure.
This time we pickup where we left off. The two fighters dish it out and brutal blows to each other leave one pretty much "dead" if you can say that. Then we have a more tender moment of two trusting each other once more while gaining their memories back. I'm being vague cause everything at this point is a spoiler but the ending with a fuck session turned to gain more powers seems intriguing...

Warnings: body horror, graphic violence, dubious consent, sexual content and nudity Gabimaru faces against Chobe while still suffering from the effects of overuse of Tao, as in, losing his memory. He only remembers what he is - not even his mission, and going up against a tao user while himself not remembering how to use it? Not recommended! His fire attacks keep them at an even level, but with Chobe regenerating and then losing himself to the plant monster part of him spells trouble for Gabimaru. Mei uses her own power to get them away at a cost to herself, and then they all meet up with the other group, with Toma in tow as a captive. Chobe meanwhile encounters Rien who has come to check him out, and, well he is no match right now against the Tensen is he?
With all of them reunited, they can formulate their next plan of action. Getting off the island should be a priority but getting to the elixir is of import to Gabimaru. We know from the further explanations provided by Mei, about how the island is created, and what the Tensen are, but the elixir is still out of reach. And as the reinforcements make landfall, it seems their troubles are about to multiply. With the Iwagakure, who are in a large number, ordered to kill Gabimaru on sight, it is going to make one very awkward meeting for all involved. With the numbers of the Yamada Asaemon clan so few, I have doubts as to whether they will be able to stand against them, if they even do. It is going to be a vicious battle in the next book, I suppose!

My only concern was that Chobe was gonna die but luckily he seems almost fine (if he wasn't on the verge of losing his self, ripped away fron his brother and forced to have sex for survival).
Some new background about where the whole Island comes from. Was that foot the Hoshin or someone else? Will he be the final boss? I kind of hope he's just an zealot scholar type. Did that also mean the the flower hybrid Tensen are the more "pure" ones and Rein+Mei are impure because they were originally human-human?
I'm glad Gabimaru has his memories back because he fights better with his mind, at least I find the fights more entertaining and I can't stand amnesia as a trope or plot. And we got a name! YUI!
Im really loving what Yuzuriha is bringing to the story. A pragmatic nature who I can't really call cold because she has so much joy to bring. Quickly becoming a favourite. Hoko's sacrifice was expected and done simply to fuel the animanga weirdness of age changing female characters. Sigh.
Age and gender are never as they seem in Hell's Paradise. I thought Lord Fushi was a smart-ass child.
I have to say, the character designs are somewhat lacklustre and don't strike me as particularly memorable or singular, but the settings, especially religious ones are very well done. His monster designs are also where he really shines.
There are some characters I'd be sad to see go, but I also feel that the group's getting a bit big. Does not bode well. Some people are gonna be pushed out if the main character spehere and killed of...

Epic battles, cannibalism, and maybe the elixir of life! Just another day in Hell's Paradise...
This volume does not disappoint readers! The plot immediately picks up with Gabimaru battling Aza Chobe while suffering from memory loss. Yamada Asaemon Sagiri and her group are trying to reconnect with the others. More pieces of the Tensen puzzle come together with a big reveal of the overarching plot. However, as readers should come to expect with this series, there are more questions than answers at the end. The story still has a lot of humor and gore. The volume ends at the perfect cliffhanger that will leave readers eager for the next volume!

So we get to know more about Aza Chobe and his value to the Tensen. From the last volume, he and Gabimaru had an epic fight that unleashed some crazy power derived from Tao.
Meanwhile, the next landing party is getting ready and we get to see the lead swordsman Shugen, an intriguing character that I can't wait to see more of.
Graphic images suited for mature audiences, and the humor is classic Japanese (deadpan and chuckle-worthy) but wow the fight scenes are amazing! The excitement builds and builds....

This was a pretty interesting volume to say it felt more like a bridge volume than anything else. I'm glad they didn't drag out the amnesia plotline too much and it's resolved in this volume, as it's definitely not a favourite twist. Learning more about the origins of the island and the creator, as well as the goals of Tensen, was also pretty interesting, and we get to see some pretty good action in this volume as well. With the arrival of the others on the island, things are definitely going to heat up even more as well.

The gang learns about how serious a threat Lord Tenzen is and more about how Tao works. An incredible fight goes on, drawn fantastically. There are 1 or 2 heartfelt moments here as well that may make you Tear up. And the more mature content is done, in my opinion very well. Everything is done with intention to serve the story and not just for hedonistic reasons. Overall another great volume in the series, I'm ready for the next!

Repetitive review, but like the handful of volumes before, this one was heavy in good old shounen battles and exploring the power system. Well done but not my favorite stuff. I much prefer the moments in between the fights when we see these cool characters relax and interact with one another.
The Aza brothers, especially Toma, are my current favorites, and still love the thing with Gabimaru and his wife.
