Well of Magic (Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar and Grill #4)
Published December 15th 2019 (first published December 11th 2019), Kindle Edition 228 pages
I never expected to see a mage battle on national TV.
When the ley lines—the orderly rivers of magical energy that circle the globe—went wild, chaos ensued.
Magic hid in the shadows for hundreds of years, but then a secret order took control of one of the world's largest religions. Their goal is to rule the world, and the first step is to control the ley lines and magic users.
I didn’t escape the Illuminati just to become a slave to the Knights Magica. If they want me, they’re going to have a fight on their hands.

This one is definitely one of the best so far.... but there's still that quickness in parts of the storyline, it's as if we need to read past it to get it out of the way... There's a build up to a plot and then we speed through to the finale ... and yet it's still really good!
Definitely no second guessing the romance, that one has gone in a different direction... again it was quick! But I like it!
Dam these books shouldn't even appeal to me but here I am... ready for the next one!

This is fourth in a series and the story and characters build throughout. I definitely recommend reading them in order. And I'd suggest holding off on this one until the next is published. It isn't a cliff-hanger, exactly. But it is an abrupt end with major conflict still unresolved. Worse, the building action in this one is still unresolved so there's no actual climax at all. Which is the primary reason this one won't get a rating.
And there's another problem with this story that really bugged me. Erin's new boyfriend, Oriel, is unsatisfactory, their "romance" was mostly just a nod and a wink, and their interactions lack substance. Which is sad because I've been looking forward to the kind of man she could be with since this series started. And I kind of
really hate that she is already entwined with the dingbat when the best prospect for a great match finally showed up. I really liked Ian and am sad that he's relegated to side-character status.
Anyway, I still love the series. And I'm eagerly anticipating the next book and wish there were some news on when I could expect it. Based on Kingsolver's publishing pace, I probably have two months or so to go. Sigh.
No rating on this one for . . . reasons. It's complicated. Which is why there's a link...
A note about Chaste: Erin and her new jerkwad are definitely having sex. But Kingsolver pulls the curtain way before anything intimate happens, so I consider this still chaste. Others might not be so forgiving. Personally, I think the story suffers for the curtains because we lack any idea of their intimacy or interactions when they are alone and being together. We don't know how caring he is or how vulnerable. It's a real missed opportunity, or it would be if Kingsolver meant us to care about this relationship as more than just sex. I'm not convinced that she does...

Invasion by The Knights of MagicaI’d probably give this 4.5 ⭐️ if I could. This book is from one of my favourite authors. I always love the stuff BR Kingsolver writes, but I was a little uncertain in parts of this book. One of my uncertainties arises from Erin meeting Oriel, a half fae/half witch who is her friend Lizzy’s cousin. He is an unseelie fae and therefore a little darker than Lizzy. He’s also got horns and bits of fur in odd places. He’s very good at glamour though, as well as being a Smith, or a fae metal worker, which is why Erin initially wanted to meet him. Their relationship strikes me as odd, in that Erin just jumps straight into it, with hardly any hesitation, despite being concerned about her instant intense attraction to him. However, as the book progresses I got over those feelings.
The book, away from the romance part, is as anticipated, it’s usual fantastic self. It seems an enemy of the Illuminati has come to Westport and they want to eliminate all the supernatural beings they can find, and they don’t care who gets caught in the cross fire. They are a religious order and are mostly zealots.
Erin believes they are trying to fill the vacuum left by the, now mostly destroyed, Illuminati and she ends up being roped in to pass on her conclusions and any information she has buried in her brain from her years as an Illuminati Hunter, to the Supernatural Council.
A lot happens in this book, with fighting off the Knights of Magica, as well as the romance part, so there is no surprised that this book has a cliff hanger. At the end of the book it states the next book will be out in Winter 2020. Of course this felt a very long time to wait, so I checked with the author and they said it would probably be March at the earliest for release, which is a lot sooner than my panicked brain had it, with was next winter, rather than the one we are currently in. I do love it when an author is accessible for this sort of thing.
As always, I recommend the book, despite my misgivings early on with the romance part of the story. I got over it quickly, so I’m sure you will too!

Well this book was much the same as the others- Erin is still insisting that she is
'just a bartender' while being constantly assaulted, threatened to be kidnapped, and stopped at random by baddies trying to kill her every other min. Can't this girl get a break?

This time it's
The Knights of Magica doing the meddling. They are a religious order that thinks its their duty to rid the world of supernaturals- while also trying to create a theocracy throughout the world.
We also have another new love interest-
Oriel who is an Unseelie fae- and like in past books the romance is awkward and lukewarm at best. Plus...he's kind of a jerk at times.
“Are you going to come around only when you want to get laid?” I asked him when he kissed me goodbye.
A sly smile crossed his face. “Perhaps. Why else would I want to see you?”
I went slightly numb inside. “The pleasure of my company?”
“I’m quite pleased with the pleasure you provide.”

Um...okay?
Its one thing if she's just having a fun time with him and they know its not going anywhere-like fuck buddies or fwb, but still...thats still a shitty thing to say.

So, while I like where this story is going in the broad strokes, I guess I want a little more personal character growth for Erin- and maybe not such throwaway beau's.

SO. FLIPPIN. GOOD.Wow every time I re-read a BR Kingsolver book. I'm like why does it take so long to come out I need one every few months. Lol
The thing is she really delivers high quality books that are 100% worth the wait. This book was everything I was hoping for and I won't give away any spoilers. Buuuut the growth the Erin has from book 1 to now is so believable because some books rush the character development making it completely unrealistic. Do yourself a favor and read this book. If you're just discovering this series to back to book one.

3 1/2 stars. Things go global as the Knights make a move to take over the world and exposes magic to mundane humans. Erin truly shows how kickass she is in the latest installment of the series with lots of fight scenes. But not everything looks bleak for Erin as a new love interest enters the picture and appears to a good match for her. The romance felt a little rushed and rough in places. I'm happy overall as the plot has taken a new twist but is filled with promise. I love Erin and all the people at Rosie's and can't wait to read more.

3.5 Interesting twist!

I was really curious to find out how it'll go on once the Illuminati are gone.
I can say that I am impressed, I did not expect to see a bigger, 'badder', wolf out there.
Still, I'm disappointed in the Fae. I wanted to see more of them, see them more involved. I have a feeling that this second part will be a bit rushed, but let's wait and see.

This book started out with a earthquake that only mages felt. This was because a.New group was trying to take over the key lines so they could control the world's magic. With that they could rule the world. Rosie of course was in their crosshairs and they tried to destroy her and make her a pawn for them. She may have been in their clutches but she did not play their games. I liked this book because she needed to depend on others to survive. Such a great book and a wonderful addition to the series.

Sadly, I did not enjoy this book as much as the others in this series. It started out really good, then it got so slow and boring that I kept dozing off listening to it. Then the last hour got good again. I’ll be reading the next book though to see what happens next.

WowI have had so many feelings over this book. No book about persecution, including religious persecution, is going to make for a comfortable read. But nevertheless you are completely in Erin’s headspace through the whole novel, and it all comes together in a vibrant and complex storyline. Beautiful, but hard. Wow.

Hidden artifactWell now. If you like a excellent series with a badass female protagonist, this is for you. The Knights Magica have taken over Westport. The vacuum created by the Illuminati destruction has emboldened an even worse evil. Bent on taking over the world, a magical artifact may be behind it all. Love this series.
