Fight for Me (The Arrowood Brothers #2)

Published May 19th 2020 by BAAE Publishing, Paperback 336 pages

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a new emotional and riveting standalone second chance love story.

I fell in love with Sydney Hastings when I was ten years old.
At sixteen, we whispered promises of forever.
When I was twenty-two I broke them all. I left her and promised never to return.

After my father's death, I’m forced to go home to Sugarloaf for six months. She'll be everywhere, no longer just in my memories and regrets.

When we’re together, it’s as though time never stopped. She’s still the one I want, but I don’t deserve her. Instead of apologizing, I take that beautiful, broken woman in my arms. But after that, it’s her turn to leave me.

Now I have to fight. For her. For us. For the life we both want …

Bleh. This is simply unacceptable. Or, more like . . . maddening.

“I have never denied that I love her.”
He releases a heavy sigh. “No, but you won’t do anything about it either. You love her, but you won’t try again? You love her, but you won’t fight for her? You let her go, but you’re holding on.”
— Connor to his chickenshit brother

What is this? Another asshole of a H who doesn’t know how to get his head out of his arse. And because of what? Yeah, (view spoiler). I’m sorry, but try being in Declan’s head and not want to throat punch him every five seconds!

“I need you, Declan. I need you, so please don’t push me away,” I beg and then kiss him again. If his lips are to mine, he can’t refuse me.” — Sydney

So, here comes the pushover h who begs and begs and begs. Even after almost a decade since she’s been unfairly dumped by the unredeemable coward SOB. Jeez, seriously this girl needs some DUA LIPA injected into her system. She should be ABOVE begging and breathing the same air as her stupid ex.

“Now I have to fight. For her. For us. For the life we both want.” — Declan

Freaking LIAR! It takes the h to be (view spoiler) for the H to finally get his head on straight and say those things. Not even a grovel, only sweet nothings whispered into the h’s ear and it’s suddenly HEA. What an effing joke!

“I’m pathetic and so deeply in love with the man, it isn’t normal” — Sydney

Well, at least she’s self aware. C’mon, the trauma is legit, but God help me, this whole scenario is so OVERRATED! Not to mention, UNORIGINAL. Are we going to have the SAME plot/main conflict in every single book going forward?! Because this exact same dilemma is also one of the main concerns in the first book.

Looking at the title, I’d thought this would all be about the H fighting tooth and nail to get back to the h’s good graces. Instead, what I got was the opposite. The h doing all the fighting while the H consistently being a stubborn ass for ⅔ of the book. Fight for Me is possibly the worst second chance romance I’ve read this year. Oops, that was mean. But it’s true.

“A true second shot will split the first arrow and create a solid path.”

I can’t get enough of these Arrowood brothers! I loved the first book in this series, and I couldn’t wait to get to Declan and Sydney’s second chance romance!

Declan and Sydney were childhood sweethearts and they couldn’t have been more in love. Sydney thought nothing would ever tear them apart. Then, one day, seemingly out of nowhere, Declan breaks up with her and leaves town for good.
I love her more than anything in the world, enough to let her go.

Sydney never truly understood why Declan left and never got all the way over him. Now that he’s back in town… oh the angst! It’s impossible for these two to stay away from each other, even if Sydney knows that’s exactly what she should be doing.

The chemistry between these two was off the charts. Even when they fought against it, it was impossible to fight. It’s also apparent to everyone but them that they never stopped loving one another. Declan is stubborn and a little misguided, but he has his reasons. All Sydney wants is for him to fight for her. And she’s worth the fight.

I love a good second chance romance and I can’t get enough of Corinne Michaels writing. Fight for Me was such a win for me and I can’t wait to read more of the Arrowood brothers. If you’re looking for an emotional, steamy, and angsty read, check this one out!
This is a love that’s strong, been through hell, and has found its way back to heaven. We’ve battled and won. She’s the prize. She’s everything.

“Now I have to fight. For her. For us. For the life we both want.”

description

She was the one doing the fighting because sis was very much pathetic. I just love an author that very much writes women as weak and pathetic. She begged him to have sex that’s why she got pregnant in the first place.. She let him into her body without asking him if he was safe.

He spent the majority of the damn book saying he wasn’t good enough for her. How fighting for her was to let her go. (Stupid logic if you asked me) How he loved her but he couldn’t give her what she wanted which was a husband and kids. And since the 4 dumb-asses made a pact that they would never get married and have kids he doesn’t think he would be a good husband and father.

She was damn weak and pathetic that she would asked him if he loved her, if he wanted to married and have kids with her. He’d said no and she’d run away crying.

At 57% she hadn’t told him that she was having his kid and he hadn’t told her that the reason the idiots ran out of town was because their abusive father killed the parents of the heroine from book 1 while driving intoxicated.
Oops was I not supposed to spoil the plots for all 4 books? My bad!! 🤣🤣

“I want him to fight for me, which will never happen.”

“You knew me better than that. You knew my heart was always and forever going to be yours.”
“I didn’t deserve it.”
“Maybe not, but”—she shrugs—“it was yours, and I guess the worst part is ... that it still is.”

“He’s not at fault—I am. I’ve spent my life waiting for a man to come back and fight for something that he never wanted to fight for. Declan made his intentions clear when he left me. He doesn’t love me the way I need him to. He doesn’t want a family. He wants the life he has, and I want more.”
“The only thing that drives me crazy is the man beside me, and I already know I won’t have him.”

“I needed you to fight, Declan. I wanted and begged you to fight for me. For us. For the love we share and the life that we could have, but you won’t, and I can’t make you. I love you, but it’s time for me to accept that we won’t be.”

2 pages later she was begging him to have sex with her again

“I need you, Declan. I need you, so please don’t push me away,” I beg and then kiss him again. If his lips are to mine, he can’t refuse me.”

“Don’t let me go,” Sydney begs.”

“Choose me, Declan,” I beg softly. “Choose us and just tell me what made you walk away eight years ago.”
“Let this go.”
“Why did you leave me? Why did you give up everything? Why didn’t you choose me then?”

“You don’t have to save me anymore, Dec. I’m right here. I’m fine.”
“Because I didn’t come back for you. Don’t you see? If I had, then what would we be?”

She asked him to go to the ultrasound appointment and he just left. I guess men in books have not heard of these pesky little things called charger cables for phone in the car because his stupid excuse was that his phone died while trying to call her. In the appointment she finds that there’s something abnormal (a tumor in her placenta) so she needed further testing because of it the baby was growing smaller cause there wasn’t any room for him to move in. She was all alone and he was nowhere to be found. I don’t care if he had any reason for it but up to that point he’d decided that he wanted finally to fight for her and he just didn’t go to her appointment.

If that wasn’t enough drama-lama in the book the author decides to throwing more drama. The heroine goes into a coma after having the tumor removed in surgery.

Safety: Heroine has not been celibate (there hasn’t been a lot or men) but she was very much pathetic if you haven’t figured it out by now with those excerpts. Hero’s celibacy it’s up to debate at this point. No mention AT ALL if he’s been with women. So I’ll put some excerpts that he said and let you to decide if he was or if he wasn’t.

“And if I can’t have her, then there will never be another.”

“I think you do. For years, you have been telling me about Sydney and how you walked away from her to save her. How you can’t imagine how it ever would’ve worked. Then you went on to say that you were done and you moved on, married your work, and never gave her another thought. I’d say you’re either a liar or a bastard.”
“I’m a liar because I never moved on from her. How could I? My losing her wasn’t how it was meant to be. That future was taken from me, ripped out of my hands without any warning.”

“When I’m home, this is not my reality.
I work.
I work and work and work more in my office, stopping only to eat and drag my ass back to my apartment”

And the best of all... no groveling! If him buying her farm because she was ready to leave town is any groveling then i don’t even know. The woman just took him back after spending the whole damn book begging him and him spending it pushing her away.

“I’m pathetic and so deeply in love with the man, it isn’t normal”
Well at least she acknowledged that

Overall this book was about a coward unredeemable asshole and his weak, pathetic, pushover heroine.

First of all, he’s an asshole who ran out of town and left his girlfriend. “The girl he supposedly loved”. And I’m so over assholes so I’ll probably just skip it.
I liked her but if she’s been celibate after he left her then that’ll be a no. I don’t know if he was celibate but I’m not holding my breath here.
3 out of 4 brothers books have 2nd chance romances. Because Sean is also in love with a girl/heroine that is in love with someone else. Unless the author gives Sean another heroine. We will see about the last brother Jacob.
The way the author left it in book-1 is that it’s possible this heroine is pregnant and doesn’t want to tell him that she is or could be.

I’m not sure how Corinne continually does it but she seems to top every book she puts out.

“A true second shot will split the first arrow and create a solid path.”

Talk about second chances and how this blew it all out of the water. I’m in love with Declan and Sydney.
They are both so strong willed and hard headed. They both know of to get under each others skin but know when they’ve gone too far. The love that has never gone away even though they have both tried. Ugh this book is just so perfect! I just couldn’t put it down but didn’t want to finish it because I didn’t want it to end.

If second chance love stories is your thing, you need to grab this one ASAP!

The title Fight for Me is absolute perfection for this story. Declan and Sydney orbit each other from a young age, and when life gets in the way, decisions made, lives are forever changed, hearts broken, and through it all, there is always the lingering request from them both to FIGHT. Fight for me is angsty, sweet, sexy, funny, frustrating, and an emotional ride that I devoured in one reading. I was honored to advance read Declan and Sydney's journey and can't wait to listen to the narration. The emotion is in words, and I look forward to hearing them vocalized.

READ ME ROMANCE

Rating: really liked it
Fight For Me is a childhood friends–to–lovers and second chance love story that will tear your heart to pieces, then slowly mend it back together again. Although it’s a standalone, you will understand the four Arrowood brothers’ backstory best if you read book one first, Come Back For Me.

Book two features Sydney Hastings who loved Declan Arrowood since she was ten years old. Due to personal reasons that he does not disclose to Sydney, he decides to abrubtly leave her heartbroken, ending their relationship right before they were to head off to college. The author goes into painstaking detail about the anguish he and his three brothers experienced at the hand of their father growing up, and the mixed emotions he feels as an adult now that he is dead.

In his final cruel act, the father wills his four sons the family farm provided they return home and each live on the property for six months. Connor did his stint in book one, and now it’s Declan’s turn. Declan is a successful financier and businessman in NYC and reluctantly returns home to fulfill his obligation. While close in heart, the four brothers have been living separate lives, and this series lovingly intertwines them reconnecting and building a relationship of empathy, forgiveness, and trust.

Sydney and Declan had the storybook romance when they were younger. Their hearts only beat for each other and that is what makes this slow burn so emotional. It’s angsty with so many feels including tears! While Sydney moved on and earned her Law degree, she has never forgotten Declan and remained in the small town of Sugarloaf that she loves having taken over her family farm while also working as an attorney. She is best friends with Ellie, who is engaged to Connor, and when she runs into Declan at their house almost a decade later, all of the old feelings resurface. She so desperately tries to remain strong, and with all the grace and dignity she can muster, seeks the closure and answers she needs as to why he left.

Their push and pull, her honesty when she bears her soul, and her unwavering support makes her a true heroine in my eyes. She is selfless, realizes he has demons, and is so patient as he works through his emotions. He is so conflicted and the author poignantly delves into his torment, while at the same time, letting the reader know just how much he loves and desires Sydney.

She is no pushover, realizes her self-worth, and when the unthinkable happens, she deals with her situation with maturity and class. I love her relationship with her girlfriends, sister, and mom, and how their lives are all interconnected.

Even though Declan and Sydney are trying to work things out for half of the book, their chemistry and natural gravitational pull is undeniable and there are lots of steamy sexy times! There are so many tender moments, especially when he leaves his comfort zone and fights for her with all that he has. Their love and devotion to each other was never an issue, and Declan’s big grand gesture at the end that will have you swooning! From the first page to the last, there is tremendous character growth throughout their beautiful love story. Will they finally focus on the future and put the past behind them, or will he continue to deny himself a life of true love and happiness?

Be still my heart! Corinne Michaels wrote a beautiful story about a second chance love that will steal your heart. It was filled with so many emotions and feels. I loved it so much from the characters to the writing to the dreamy but broken Arrowood brothers. Their past plays a major role in all their stories but it’s their story of healing that you will feel in your soul.
Declan and Sydney were childhood sweethearts. When a family event, changes the course of their future, Declan believes Sydney and Sugarloaf are not in his. Fight For Me tells their story and it is so fantastic. I just loved getting to know them and see their love resume and grow. Their chemistry and love cannot be denied but can Declan disregard his past and family secrets to fight for the one he truly loves?
Yes I wanted Declan and Sydney to just get over it, but the way the story was told had me glued to the pages. I couldn’t put it down and that right there is due to Corinne’s writing. Her stories suck you in, in the best way possible. I didn’t want it to end.
I just love second chance stories. They warm my heart when there is history and seeing the characters overcome obstacles from their past and grow together to rekindle their romance. This book had it all. This is one of my favorite series of Corinne’s. I cannot wait for the next book, Sean’s story.

“A single moment can define a lifetime. My father taught me that lesson, and I couldn’t stay here and hurt you.”

This book was absolutely phenomenal! This is a second chance romance that by far passes up anything else I have read before. You can read this as a stand alone, but I would recommend reading Come Back for Me first. You will first meet Declan and Sydney in that book.

“I can’t give myself back to you because you’re the sun, stars, and the air I breathe. You’re everything, and I can never be more than the shell I am now.”

Declan has taken that top spot in my heart. He is fiercely protective of his family and will do anything for them. The writing in this book is amazing. You will feel you are right in the middle of Sugarloaf with these Arrowood men.

I can’t recommend this book enough. If you love a small town, angsty second chance romance.... this is the book for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gosh, this book ruined me in the best of ways. I knew Sydney and Declan would rip my heart out, but I wasn't at all prepared for them. These two are obviously meant to be together, and are so engrained in each other's souls, but because of Declan's misguided intentions, they just can't *be.*

Declan hasn't had an easy life -- and that's an understatement. When he and his brothers lost their mom at a young age, the father that was supposed to be their protector turned into a monster. Each brother was horribly abused, both physically and emotionally, but it seems that Declan had it the worst. As the oldest brother, he was the Arrowwoods true father figure, and oftentimes put their wants and needs above himself. His only piece of heaven came in the form of Sydney -- his longtime friend turned lover -- and even though they are so young, he just knows that they are meant for each other. But one decision derailed his entire future, and two hearts paid the price.

Eight years later, Sydney still feels the loss of Declan. She can't wrap her mind as to why they were planning their futures together one minute, only to have him walk away from her the next. When he he comes back to his hometown where Sydney still lives and works (She's a badass lawyer, owns the family farm, AND volunteers) you see that these two are fighting a useless fight. After reconnecting in an unplanned way, Sydney tries to do everything she can to make the love of her life see that all he ever wanted is still in front of him.. all he has to do is fight for it.

As per usual, Corinne put me through the emotional ringer, but I don't think I've ever cried so hard while reading one of her books. That twist had me fearing the worst, wondering which direction this evil genius would take us in.. I was crying so hard I could barley see my kindle. I won't spoil anything for you lovely readers, especially since there is SO much more to the story than I've shared with you, but just be prepared to go on one heck of a journey. This is by far one if my absolute favorite books if hers.

We also get to see a beloved character quite early on, and I legit screamed when I saw who it was!!! I love the way Corinne ties her books together!

Please read this book as soon as you can.. It's so much more than a second chance romance. It will tug on your heartstrings, take a piece of your soul, and will have you begging for more.

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**

**And after that ending, I am that much more excited about Sean's book!!!

Where do I begin?

This series is going to RUIN me, no two ways about it.

I love the characters, I love the setting and I love the story running through all 4 books.

This time, it’s Declan’s turn to go back to the place of the brothers’ nightmares. But for Declan, there is more than just one reason it’s not a good thing. Sydney. His forever girl that he gave up 8 years prior when he made his escape from Sugarloaf.

Despite being the oldest and the most surly, Declan is a tortured soul and one that can’t help but be stuck in the past no matter how much time has passed. Knowing his heart beats only Sydney you can’t help but scream at and shake your kindle in the hopes he hears your pleas to go to Sydney.

She’s not moved on - not from him, her home or her life in Sugarloaf despite her family all moving away years prior. She just can’t let go and upon his return, she tried desperately to keep a tenuous grasp on the past and her love for the oldest Arrowood brother. She gives him chance after chance and he just doesn’t get the memo.

What follows is edge of your seat, can’t look away stuff. I was on the edge of my seat reading the second half of this book. If there is one this Corinne Michaels can do is give you one hell of a twist!!!

My heart went out to Sydney and Declan as they fought their way back to one another from fighting each other to fighting themselves it was one emotional journey and one I was glad to have a front row seat to.

And what a set up for Sean’s book!!!

OH, and the cameo from my beau Milo....HEAVEN!!

Oh sweet Jesus this book!! Fight For Me (Arrowood Brothers #2) has seriously slayed my heart. I love second chance romances and Declan and Sydney’s book really did it for me. Corinne Michaels is the master of creating gut wrenching books that pull at your heart strings and make you want to cry your eyes out and throw your e reader. And in this case, she definitely succeeded. Even though she made me cry, I don’t regret reading this book. This angsty second chance romance has all the emotions and took me on one hell of a ride that was well worth it in the end.

Declan and Sydney are flawed (mainly due to their broken pasts) which brings a more realistic aspect to their story. These child hood sweethearts are definitely meant to be together as their chemistry is natural and packed with a lot of heat. The storyline is engaging, consistent and beautifully executed. The Arrowood brothers’ stories just keep getting better and I’m more than ready for Sean and Devney’s book.

Absolutely amazing! This series is phenomenal so far!! This book lives up to it’s name as it really packs an emotional punch straight to the heart! A beautiful second chance love story with all the feels I hope to get from a Corinne Michaels book and so much more! So real and raw and passionate! I positively adore Declan and Sydney and everything they go through on their journey, even though some of it sure was scary! They have an undeniable chemistry that no amount of time could dissipate. I wanted to smack Declan a few times to shake him out of his head even though I understand why he feels like he does. Luckily he manages to see the light before it is too late. Oh and how I love what he does for her! Swoon! It’s so awesome that a certain someone from another book is in some scenes in this book. I just love that!! And him!! Sydney and Declan may have had a rocky road but it is so satisfying when they finally get there. I was losing my mind there for a bit though, talk about a huge emotional monkey wrench Corinne! But thankfully all is well. They are simply glorious together! What a wonderful ending to this fantastic story! Really looking forward to Sean’s book!
