I first "met" Ree Drummond 10 or 12 years ago through her Pioneer Woman blog. I loved her laid back and casual posts that covered everything from her life on the ranch to all kinds of kitchen basic how-to's that were extremely helpful early in my marriage when my husband and I were learning to feed ourselves, lol. Ree just seems like a real genuine person and I enjoyed reading the tidbits she'd share and trying out her recipes.
Fast forward to 2020 and the woman is her own brand. Her name is all over every floral patterned kitchen item you can shake a stick at, she has several cookbooks and children's books, and her own cooking show. Is it overkill? Maybe, but I'm happy for her because she seems so nice!

This book is a collection of personal stories divided into five sections and quite simply if you love reading her blog then you'll love this book.

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be - cozy and comfy and happy. I haven’t read any of her other books, though, so I have nothing to compare it to - I do think that if I had actually ever watched her show or read her blog it might have been familiar material. But I hadn’t, so it wasn’t, and I’m a happy reader!

What better week to post about this book than a week that focuses on food & baking than Thanksgiving, right? I love when I get the chance to watch Ree's show, 'The Pioneer Woman'. She makes yummy foods that use easy to find ingredients, she has the sweetest voice ever, & the woman never stops smiling! This is my first book by Ree, but I think I am going to check out her others now since this one was just so cute & fun! The book jacket is adorable, the book itself is pink & there are even little hearts covering the inside covers, & there are a handful of recipes, too...what more could I ask for!
This is one of the cutest, funniest, mom-type, celebrity memoirs I have ever read. I had no idea how witty Ree is! She is hugely successful w/ a TV show, bestselling cookbooks, a blog, a magazine & a cooking products line, but she is also a super grounded, family-first woman & I admire that so much! And the chapter, 'Love in the Time of Rubber Snakes'...I totally related because I do this to my family as well.

Ree Drummond also known as The Pioneer Woman, cook show host, author and entrepreneur’s latest book Frontier Follies is an uplifting book of essays about her life on the Drummond ranch with her in-laws, children, cowboys and husband. Now, if you are not a fan of Ree, (I personally feel like she is a friend in my head), this book may not be for you. But if you enjoy witty stories about life, love and skunks you will enjoy this book of well written, heartwarming themes.

In Frontier Follies, Drummond gives the reader an inside seat at her and husband Ladd’s table where she shares some very funny, sometimes crude table talk on life on a ranch. Whether it’s how she seems to wash dishes as she and Ladd have arguments, (I Do Dishes When I Argue), or how no one comes between Ladd and a meal, (Ladd and the Gala) or what their trials and tribulations were during their first year of marriage with Ree being pregnant and trying to adjust to life on a ranch where her closest neighbor is almost an hour away, there is a certain flair and sarcasm she uses to make even the direst of situations make you smile.

As she chronicles her families lives on the ranch, attempting homeschooling, or planting sunflowers only to have them destroyed, or telling the tale of a family of skunks who moved in under their house on the ranch, each essay exudes her charm.

There is a section on losing Ladd’s mother Nan a few years ago as well as a naughty essay about Nan which made me laugh out loud. Also included is the story of how they became foster parents to their “bonus kid” Jamar and what the adjustment was like for everybody in their family. Oh, and there are stories about the cowboys on the ranch!

Frontier Follies is an enjoyable, easy read with a tender and lighthearted look into how someone’s track in life of becoming a lawyer took a deep turn when she fell in love with a cowboy.

Frontier Follies is the latest book by Ree Drummond, popular cooking show host and author of several cookbooks and children's books. Her first book, Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, described meeting her future husband, getting married and moving to a cattle ranch. Frontier Follies describes life on the ranch in later years. She touches on many subjects such as pranking her husband, homeschooling, childbirth, and children leaving for college. It is filled with many laugh out loud stories from someone who definitely does not take herself seriously. A fun and lighthearted read for when you need a good escape from the world. – Jennifer C.

When you read her stories from over the years of living on an Oklahoma ranch she just feels so down to earth. You feel like you know her from sitting in your home and watching her cook on tv in her own home and seeing her family on their ranch. She is funny too. Down to earth and funny are a great mix when it comes to biographies for me.

I would consider myself a fan of Ree! I really enjoy watching her on tv and even visited her restaurant in Oklahoma! This book though... not a fan. I found myself feeling embarrassed for her and her family. She tried so hard to be funny and it just didn’t work. The “love robot” essay really stood out as an example! It was so awkward. I really wanted to like this book, but it just fell short.

3.5🌟 This was a fun book to listen to. It was especially fun since Ree narrated it herself. It sounded as if we were just sitting down over a cup of coffee and talking. Most of the stories were really funny, some were a little too personal 😳🤭 Overall, it was an interesting book and fun to learn a little bit more about Ree and her family.

3.5⭐
Each chapter was a different story from various aspects of her life. There were some very funny stories, and a few ummm interesting stories. There was some language sprinkled throughout and some of the writing was rather rambling.

Perhaps my high expectations were the downfall for the book. I love her cookbooks and her first book about her romance with Ladd, but this felt like a disjointed combination of disparate blog posts - many of which I had read before. Furthermore, there was a puritanical vein running through the book that made me feel uncomfortable at the very least. There were a couple of truly hilarious stories but not enough to bump the rating of this book higher than two stars.

I have Ree Drummond’s most recent cookbook and was glad to get to this collection of essays by her as well. While it was mostly about parenting and I am not a parent, I did love most of the stories in here and really enjoyed the recipes that were included throughout. I listened to this one via audiobook and Drummond reads it herself which I always love. This had plenty of funny and heartwarming stories that had me chuckling and if you are a fan of The Pioneer Woman then you definitely want to check this one out.

Thank you to William Morrow Books for the finished copy to review.

I loved sitting down with Ree and getting to laugh with her and getting to know her better. Wait did I just say sitting down with Ree. Thats wrong I was reading her latest book it just felt like I was sitting down talking with her. I laughed and just had the best time reading this one. I am still laughing about the doughnut story,
This is a 5-star read and a much needed read doing all the mess we have all been through. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
