I can hardly believe it, but I have fallen in love with this series. I do like imagniary worlds and medieval times, but I tend to get attached to characters and stop reading if the author kills them off. I would warn any readers like me, not to get attached to these characters, because most of them don't last long. They are, however, well-drawn characters, with clear individual personalities and their actions run true to character. Nothing seems forced or contrived.
I have read the first book and watched the HBO series. The series is very close to the book, but I personally still like to read the book before I watch a performance. I am on the second book now and am looking forward to the TV series which starts again on April 1. I think this book will be the next young adult craze (following the much more poorly written Twilight series and Hunger Games series) and, yet, its subject matter is more appropriate for adult readers.
It seems to me that most writers who attempt sequels fail to keep up the quality of the books. I am hoping that this does not happen here.

Having already watched the first season on HBO made this book less of a page turner than it should be. As a result it took months to finish. I believe I would've liked it better had I read the book before seeing the show.

This book is outstanding! I will forewarn any readers though that there are themes of incest, adultery and explicit sexual encounters. I can skip over those in books and still value the story behind the book. There are fabulous twists and turns. It is difficult to follow at first because there are so many characters to keep track of. It is also difficult to make some connections. There is a website devoted to making these connection, but it can also lead to spoilers. Overall I thought that this was a fabulous novel, but one you must read slowly to follow the connections between the characters.

Fantastic book series! My life had to stop while I was reading them:)

Compelling story lines, layered characters, amazing twists, make this an outstanding book. Well witten fantasy adventure for grown ups.

I am continue reading The Game of Thrones now. "In the Game of Thrones, you not a winner, there is only a dead end, there is no middle ground". This is the sunrise - with Ned Lannister - stark showdown at the time of the dialogue, it is the song of ice and fire highlight of the first sentences, because the title is “the game of thrones”. George Martin magic imagination throughout his work, first as a whole is bedding, it describes the once powerful terrorist dragon, loyal ice Wolf, appeared eight hundred years ago but now extinct has been a nightmare of the others, in ancients have spread to still be some people believe in god, old civilization in the center and the wars of seven, too cold to cold and seven countries a Great Wall between danger lurks Thule, the Great Wall to cut off all relations with family affection on special guardian night watchman, and seven free city-states of land across the narrow sea spectacular story starts.
George R.R. Martin has a very special writing style. There are three main lines in the book, they all happens at the same time. Three main lines make the story feel a little bit messy. One is at the Centre of seven political Ned stark, as a night watchman in the Great Wall Jon, another is due to subscribe to flee to narrow the other side of the sea king's daughter Dannie Liz. Three main lines, their development, in the first film is almost never met together, this technique is a novel there are three affair. When you read it deeply, the questions in the first few chapters will solve. George R.R. Martin proved his strong writing ability.

amazing read... a must read i should say.. there is alot more than just the story of kings and thrones.. words have deeper meanings than it seem...
i must admit, it was difficult to remember the characters and the linkage cause there are too many characters to remember and understand each ones personality ...
The uniqueness about the book was that it was not just ONE third party perspective.. every chapter was about a different character and how he/she sees things differently..
there were no heroes, no lead characters... no good guys or the bad ones...
WARNING : HIGHLY ADDICTIVE :)

Started this book a while back but didn't finish before it expired. Started to watch the HBO series and decided it was worth waiting for again. I love the who LOR feel to the store and love the fact the dragons will come into play at some point in this series. There are battles to be won, secret lovers, strategic games playing all taking place for the right to sit on the Throne of the 7 realms. Can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.

I don't get it. Why is this so popular? I abandoned it after page 350 because it was starting to feel like homework. Although when I mentioned that to a co-worker they said that THAT was about the point that they started to really get into it. I might revisit it because I just started watching the show. There are WAY too many characters to keep track of and the writing is rather dull.

I read this last year. It is long, complicated, and interesting YES. I am a fan of the HBO series, and feel that it often is better than the book. I think it is a magnificent production. I have all the books in this series, but got waylaid by the TV series, so have to read the others. I think these are just as good as "The Lord of The Ring," series.

I actively disliked this book. Too many POVs. Too many pure evil characters. Not enough complicated characters. Or if there were, we certainly didn't get there fast enough to make sticking with this book worth it.

Excellent Book! I love the HBO Series but of course books are normally always better. The book actually goes farther then Season 3 of the show did, It only covers about 2/3's of the book. Can't wait for Season 4 to start a lot of stuff happens in last part of the book. Love the Series.

I'm really hard to get intrigued in a good fantasy novel series, but this one blew me away with the character detail and story development. Absolutely wonderful.
