I'm a bit blown away right now. I feel like Camilla was in this box and Laurelin Page just came and broke down every wall of that box and said, now you may see her. And I did. I felt like my eyes were opened to who she really was in a big way.

In the Slay series, Camilla was not a side character I gave much thought too. I know she had a background that supported her brother in his series, but that's where it stopped for me. This book made me actually see what an incredible character she is.

It just felt so unexpected, all that pain she was hiding behind, the way she hid from life. I felt pulled in by her emotions so much that I could put my self in her shoes. I'm not one for reading about a sad tale like this but I got sucked in so quickly that it made her happily-ever-after so much more important to me.

That's where Hendrix comes in. He was crucial to Camilla turning that corner. His character isn't as delved into as much because this is all about Camilla. What you do learn is enough to know just how much he needed her as well. You really felt his craving to make her his and to be the one to bring her that happiness.

This book really speaks to what an exceptional writer Laurelin Page is. I'm amazed with how much depth was portrayed in a novella. The words used in this had impact and meant something. This was a wonderful addition to the Slay series.

I love stories written in the first person, especially this one. So intense and the depth is amazing. This novella packs a wallop.

This one for some reason hit me in all my major feels areas. The author decided to write this in the first person and I just love reading a story that way.

It makes it real. It makes it all about you and you can certainly find yourself inside this character.

Written with intense deep feeling, Paige says so much with her words. Things that you probably say to yourself about yourself. Things you recognize about yourself.

This book is a journey. Even with the short amount of pages the characters evolved so much and just created a perfect story, for lack of a better description.

With a few tears and a big sigh at the conclusion, this book is something special that you will remember deep down in your soul. I know I will. A very special romance with passion and intense feelings. This one packs a wallop!

-The perfect photo creates a memory. It’s the same the other way around. The most important moments, the ones that feel crafted and composed and perfect, those are the ones that stick with you. A lifetime is a collection of those moments, collected like snapshots in the scrapbook of your mind.

Camilla Fasbender is a single mom and career woman living in London with a painful past. She's a talented photographer who prefers to exist in the background. She's created a safe place where she doesn't venture far out of her comfort zone, but life sometimes gets lonely. Then a man shows up in her life that makes her feel too much. He truly see's her and see's past her carefully crafted facade.

Hendrix Reid is a man of action, and he relentlessly pursues her. It's like he's turned a light on in her life. She can pretend she doesn't want him, but that would be a lie. He makes her feel vulnerable, and it scares her. He's too charming, too handsome, and a distraction she doesn't need, but she can't deny their crazy attraction. She finds him fascinating and exciting, but she always runs from commitment and the unknown. He offering her more, and wants a chance, but does he want more than she's willing to give? Will Hendrix be the man to finally make her believe in possibilities and happy endings?

Slash is an all new 1001 Dark Nights standalone novella by Laurelin Paige that's part of the author's Slay series, and is about Edward's sister Camilla. I've been intrigued with Camilla from the start, and was happy to get answers about her mysterious past. This is a fantastic, emotional story about intense connections, patience, passion, survival, and beautiful love.

Bliss!

Everyone deserves a Hendrix Reid knocking around her swollen heart, pushing her, loving her, mending her broken soul.

Slash is unique and torturous, and a snapshot into the spirit inside all of us, yearning to outrun our pasts and live and love in the present. Of course, the story has Paige’s signature carnal delights—shocking and passionate coupling that digs deep, expressing so much more than warm writhing skin.

There’s Camilla, a fragile heroine on the cusp of an inevitable unraveling, and Hendrix, a rakish man with a tongue made of spun sugar and a huge heart buried under propriety and profession. However, with Slash, Laurelin Paige has moved her sexy little novella to a different level. She's created something very special. I LOVE THIS STORY.

Slash begins with a clever photographic framing. Each chapter quotes precise terms for capturing and relating art, and the story unfolds under that rubric. That’s how Camilla Fassbender lives, under her own precise terms. As written she appears in control and of one shrouded mind, but the truth, as she admits to herself and us, is that she’s human. Her photographic career is a pretext to shield her shame and guilt. From the opening words, we KNOW she is going to come undone. What I didn’t know was how much I would love Hendrix, his deep affection and healing heart.

This is how a recovery romance should read, with Laurelin’s ruminative flourishes and shocking tenderness at the least likely moments. The story has an animalistic feel to it, as though Camilla is caged or uncaged, all building to the “juxtaposition” lol and it works.

Slash is a true romance and an absolutely superb piece of writing. Camilla’s story is jarring and ugly. This story is beautiful and inevitable.

This is a sensual story, that begins with what you can see. But it doesn’t stay there long. Hendrix’s voice is a character here, and OMG does he have a way with words that sooth and ignite. I love that Camilla exists and we can watch her bloom beside a man who blesses her with patience and reverence, and at least nine hours of orgasms. Perfect!

The true success of Slash is not just in its ability to relate the grim truths that live inside countless women, it’s in its heart. Whether she’s writing about trauma or happiness or the filthiest moments her lovers demand, Paige lends a realness and emotional joy to the weight of her words. That’s why the darkest parts of Slash work, and why the healing feels so real.

Laurelin Paige's superpower is creating these beautifully broken, not always sympathetic characters and making us care. Camilla's story is no different. Broken and brittle by the same tragedies that made her brother a bold formidable devil, Camilla walled herself off, hiding behind the lens, numbing her emotions with random sex and a little too much chardonnay. Until Hendrix, a VERY memorable one night stand drops back in her life. He makes patience and kindness ultra sexy until his feelings for and faith in her finds all her broken places. It's a beautifully written, quietly sexy, swoony story that will make you sigh.

Camilla.

We already met her - and heard most of her story - in her brother's books.

She's a single mom. With a lot of baggage from her childhood and marriage.

And even though we heard a lot of what happened to her in the previous books, I still felt that this novella was way too short.

Yes, it was supposed to be just a quick look into her life - how she finally got her happily ever after. But she would've deserved to get a whole book. Maybe even a series. With lots of back-in-time chapters and a lot more about Hendrix. He didn't happen enough in this short book for my tastes.

I also did not like those many photography details at all. Way too much of that for such a short story.

This would've been a great love story. But it was just too short for me. And also ... when a book has the acknowledgements in the front - and I have to read everything in the front - and the author thanks her god in a whole little paragraph.... that's it for me. Sorry. I can't deal with that sh*t. I think I need to stop reading Laurelin's books - this god-thanking is just destroying any reading pleasure I might have gotten while reading. If you have to thank god - and you really don't in a romance - please do it in the back. That way I can at least try to enjoy the story first - and be mad at you later.

SLASH was a cute, sad and sexy little view into the life and the start of the happy end of Camilla Fasbender. Read the #SLAY series to find out more about her!

This woman!! Laurelin has the ability to render me speechless just about every time I pick up one of her books. She is amazing and ridiculously talented. The worlds that she creates are fascinating, dramatic, passionate, emotional, full of hope and heart even when they’re dark and twitchy and absolutely mesmerizing!

Camilla Fasbender has a scared past. Her childhood did not hold any rainbows and gumdrops. She’s a single mom who so far in life has had very little sunshine. If you’re new to this world, I wouldn’t go as far as saying the previous books need to be read first, but I would say you get a better picture into Camilla’s past if you read her brother’s journey first.

For me, this felt and read more like a Camilla growth journey than a romance journey of two people. Yes, it’s a romance, but it is much more than that. The story touched me deep in my soul. Camilla’s path was expertly written and deeply emotional. The story as a whole is intense and Laurelin does an incredible job of pulling you in and having you feel every moment. I am in constant awe of her!

Slash is the first Laurelin Paige book that I've ever read, and while I ultimately didn't quite love Slash, I still really liked it. Slash also left me wanting to read more of Laurelin Paige's books in the future, especially since I had already been very interested in reading Paige's books for several years prior to reading to this book. Considering the fact that Slash is a very short novella, I thought that Paige did a pretty good job of giving the reader a sense of who Camilla was as a character. Unfortunately, Hendrix, on the other hand, ultimately proved to be an extremely underdeveloped character in this novella; and I felt like the development of the romantic relationship between Camilla and Hendrix was also barely explored. That being said, while I wasn't exactly blown away by Slash, reading it really did get me excited about the prospect of reading more of Laurelin Paige's books in the future.

My rating/score: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars on Goodreads' rating system / 7 out of 10 on my own personal scoring system.

One of the best books I have read. For me it was perfect!!

This might be a novella but Laurelin Paige packs more storytelling into these pages than you could hope for. Beautiful characterisation, poignant dialogue and a chemistry that’s like a slow rumble.

I was hooked from the very first word until the end. My heart leapt, my stomach dropped and I FELT Camilla & Hendrix’s connection. It’s a seemingly simple second chance romance that’s really so much more. My only regret is that I don’t get another 20 chapters of these two.

I received an arc of this book.

One night in Paris was all Camilla and Hendrix were supposed to share. But this all comes crashing down when his name is part of her class roster. Why does the famed photographer need to take her portraits class - to finally see her again. Can the sparks that were felt before still be there? Or will the secrets from her past not allow Camilla to open up her heart or her life? You will devour this book in one sitting. Each page draws the reader in and they are taken on an emotional ride filled with angst and honesty. A wonderful addition to the series.

I haven't read the Slay Quartet but as you know with 1,001 Dark Nights each novella gives readers a glimpse into the world if they haven't experienced it before or it's an added bonus for those that have, I am so thankful that we are able to get these novellas because they definitely add to my TBR pile.

The chemistry was amazing but beyond that Laurelin Paige gives us a story of hope. Hope that there is beauty after the ugly.

This story is short, but it packs a punch. Slash wasted no time endearing me to its characters and pulling me into the plot. I enjoyed this taste of Laurelin Paige's writing style, and I want to read more.

The characters in Slash are interesting and have depth. I could relate to Camilla. She is trying to seem like she has it all together, but on the inside, she is treading water. I would have liked more from Hendrix, but being a novella length a duel POV just wasn't feasible. His patience was never ending and his straightforward nature refreshing to read. Hendrix endeavours to prove to Camilla that those who have been burnt in the past, deserve the sweetest love the most the next time around.

The storyline is fast-paced. There is a lot of emotion and tension-packed into this novella. I like the photography tidbits that start each chapter, they relate to what is happening in the story and tie the whole thing together.

Slash is a short story that had the feel of a full novel. It had me hooked from the start. It was well worth the read.

After catching glimpses of Camila's past in the Slay Series, I was intrigued. I wanted her to find love in someone who would be delicate with her in the way she needed such a tumultuous life, privileged as some of it may have been.

Enter, Hendrix Reid, a one night stand who reappears. They both knew it was more but Camila was unprepared and unwilling to pursue anything so she bolts.

For most of the story I didn't feel much chemistry between them. Being that it's a novella, there's less time to develop the characters and story. The depth of what they have doesn't really shine through until almost the end, but it's brighter than a flashbulb.

The way Hendrix revered her was exactly the delicacy I mentioned that she needed. Someone who would replace the memory of each scar with tender beauty and affection. He was perfect for her.

I love this book. It was good to read about Camilla. I got a glimpse of her in the slay series but I wanted to know her story. So glad I was able too. She is a strong woman. She has went through a lot and never shows it. She is truthful to her son. She is protective of her heart and her son. Hendrix is a patient man. He is kind and sexy and so good with her son. I love these two together. Hendrix loves her no matter the hurt, the past, and the scars on her. Camilla is brave to show him everything and tell him everything and he still stayed and didn't run. I felt bad for Camilla and everything she endured but her not letting that bring her down was the best part. That is brave and beautiful. I love the ending. I highly recommend reading this book. Definitely didn't disappoint. Another great read Laurelin Paige.

If you have read Slay Quartet, Slash by Laurelin Paige is must read for you! This is the story of Camilla, Edward Fasbender's sister.

Camila had most difficult life. Since she became orphan. Even today when she has established herself as a photographer and her billionaire brother has helped her to settle down, scars of her past haunt her. She is scared of loving again. But she has nowhere to hide when Hendrix Reid, another esteemed photographer and partner of the most memorable one night stand appears in her class. He is relentless and patient. And he wants her.

I have read a lot about Camilla's character in the quartet. And yet the depth and layers of her character surprised me. She can be many things. Angry. Bitter. Vulnerable. But she is also a survivor with unlimited strength and resilience. Hendrix made her feel beautiful, safe and cherished again. He is a great man. Who didn't hurry or push or tried to pressure her when she retreated into her cocoon. He was just there to support her and make her feel wanted. They have a beautiful chemistry. And that last chapter gave me goosebumps.

Slash by Laurelin Paige was a riveting and inspiring tale of love and second chance. It was sinful, intense and heartachingly brilliant.
