Hollywood Heir (Westerly Billionaire #4)

Published August 14th 2018 by Montlake Romance, Kindle Edition 254 pages

A billionaire silver-screen hero finds a real-life heroine in this sizzling romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Ruth Cardello.

Sage Revere follows her instincts, which have led to an oddball career as a plant psychologist. As a side project, she also helps strangers find happiness. Sage has a gift for knowing who needs her help, and the brooding hunk of a loner she meets in a coffee shop certainly fits the bill. She can feel it.

On-screen, Eric Westerly is the hottest superhero there is. Offscreen, he’s out of rehab; incognito in London; and reevaluating his life, his career, and his broken family ties. All he wants is to be alone. Then along comes some daft plant whisperer who gets under his skin. She’s also sweet, sexy, and irresistible. But what’ll happen when she finds out who he is—that underneath the gray spandex, he’s just a regular guy with a Batcave?

But Eric isn’t the only one with a few secrets. And when the masks come off, Sage and Eric are going to have to trust each other if they want a Hollywood happy ending.

I did like this romance quite a bit. I was really curious about how Eric's story would go after finishing the previous book in the series. He is a really interesting character and I was looking forward to learning more about him. I ended up having a great time with this audiobook.

Eric seems to have everything. He is wealthy and everyone seems to love him. He is a well-known actor that is best known for his portrayal of the superhero Water Bear Man. He is somewhat lost and is having a hard time figuring out how to move forward. Sage comes from a wealthy family but she takes care of herself. She works to help people through her chosen career as a plant psychologist.

Eric is hiding in plain sight as an average guy named Wayne when he meets Sage. I liked these two together from the start and thought that they had a lot of chemistry together. Eric / Wayne does have a few moments where he makes some pretty bad decisions and doesn't always treat Sage in the manner she deserves. Some of that blame could be placed with Delinda who is busy making things difficult and interfering in things that really should be left alone. I was pleased to see the Westerly family back together before this book came to an end. It was great to check in with the characters from the earlier books and to see everyone start to come together.

I would recommend this audiobook to others. I thought that Teri Clark Linden continued to do a great job with the series. She is able to cover both the male and female parts of the story without any problems. I think that she has a very pleasant voice and I was able to listen to the book for hours at a time. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more from this narrator or pick up another book written by Ruth Cardello.

Initial Thoughts
Maybe 3.5 stars but I am feeling generous :) I did like this one better than the previous one in the series but I do prefer the first two books in this series. I did like Sage from the start and am pretty sure that I have never read a book with a character listing plant psychologist on her resume. Eric / Wayne did have a few moments were he acted like an idiot in the book. Delinda filled her role of overstepping boundaries once again. Besides Delinda, the rest of the family didn't play too big of a role until closer to the end of the story. I thought that the narrator did a great job with this one.

Sage likes to help people and that’s her job. She goes around town, finds someone in a bad place and helps them get better by using plants. And Eric seems to be one of those. Every day he sits by in the coffee shop alone with an unhappy attitude. So she can’t help it, she has to help him or at least try.
But Eric’s not up for it. All he wants is to be left alone and pretend he’s not an Hollywood actor just out of rehab. But at the same time, he can’t ignore her, or her looks.

So sad I finished this book. I really wanted to read about their story for a few more days but I just couldn’t help it and so I devoured the book....

A romantic comedy that broke my heart and made me cry!

Another day in paradise, ladies. First of all, it's the second arc i read this week, part of a series I haven't read yet and I wish I did. I need to read the first three books asap.

Let me tell you how this managed to make me cry.
It's the story of "two lost souls who found acceptance and comfort in each other". She's a plant psychologist (what an amazing job to have! - kudos to the author for this "novelty") and he's a big Hollywood star, trying to get his life on track. He meets her, while wearing the disguise he created to be able to go out in public. She gets his pain from the moment she sets her eyes on him, so of course she sets her mind to "help him", since her purpose in life is to be happy and make the others around you find their happiness. She helps them achieve that.

Sage is one of the most beautiful fictional persons I had the pleasure to meet. Her soul is beautiful, the way she lives her life, the way she sees the good in people, the way she gives second and third chances so easily, how she stands up for herself when necessary, but still in a gentle way, not hurting the others feelings and I could go on forever.
He's broken. That's it. The only way to describe him. He completed a rehab, isolated himself from his big dysfunctional family, but stumble upon the love of his life, who took him out of his shell and they found their HEA together.

I cried because of their pain when dealing with their families. I cried because Sage is amazing, despite having such horrible parents. I cried because Eric hurt her, but she was still standing strong and finally, I cried when I got the advice how to manage the hurtful things people say to you.

In case you missed my point, this is a book you don't want to miss. It's not your typical rom com, full of clichés and vain characters. It's simply a beautiful life lesson.
Ruth Cardello, thank you! I promise to read your other books as well.

It would be an absolute honor to have you as my guest on my blog too. Stop by anytime you want :)

Hollywood Heir by Ruth Cardello is book Four in the Westerly Billionaire series. This is the story of Sage Revere and Eric Westerly. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this is a standalone book.
Eric is a Hollywood actor just out of rehab not feeling that he is in a good place when Sage enters his life. Sage likes to make people happy that are feeling down or out. So she has noticed how Eric appears and wants to help him...even when he doesn't want it.
This was such a great story! I so enjoyed Ms. Cardello's writing and this just made me more into her books....loved it!

A plant psychologist? Yes, I'm here for this. Unfortunately, all the characters kinda suck. Sage is a bit of a doormat mixed with the less offensive Manic Pixie Girl characteristics. And the plant psychologist thing is not at all interesting. It doesn't even make sense. Eric has some issues that I personally find stupid and he's a total asshole at all times and he's a lying liar whose pants are full of lies. And he only intends to lie more, he's actually pretty excited about lying. Honestly, he's coming across as bipolar with these manic depressive mood swings. Delinda is ridiculous and rude and I wanted her to fall down the stairs and break an ankle. Literally the only character I liked was Eric's friend Reggie, who is already happily married with kids so there's no chance of him getting his own book in this series. All these sucky characters keep making dumb decisions and I'm just getting dumber for reading it. I made it to 38%.

Sage and Eric worked for one another, I think. That said, I found them just a little too quirky to be able to relate to them completely. Maybe this is just me, and honestly, it probably is...but the quirks of the characters in this pulled me out of the story enough that I was not really able to engage with the romance of it.

I have read and enjoyed other titles in this series, and by this author, but this one didn't work for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of this one. I found parts of it silly and I never really connected with these characters. There are good parts to the book though. It's well written and the characters are well developed. Individually I like both Sage and Eric. I didn't feel the chemistry between them though. So while not a terrible book it just didn't work for me.

A really great series of contemporary romances , following the westerly family.
This is Eric and Sage’s story .
The two in desperate need of acceptance and love by their families find it first with each other.
But to find love first you must have trust .
Excellent book and addition to the series.

Humor and heartache are an odd combination, but Cardello makes it work. Hollywood Heir is not your average poor rich man story. Eric wears the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's haunted by abandonment issues, family problems self recrimination. All as the world watches. Self destruction has landed him in a dark place. Until fate sees fit to shine some light his way. Sage is a plant psychologist. She may seem odd, is often kooky, but has a good head on her shoulders and an even more beautiful heart. She has a gift for reading people and she can see Eric's pain. Can she help him before he completely self-destructs? A broken hero, an unlikely heroine and an empathetic ear are hard to resist when they come from the imagination of Ruth Cardello. A nice warm hug for the heart.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fourth in the series - and I would say that you will understand the family dynamics far better if you have read them in order. The Westerly's have a complicated relationship with each other - and possibly Eric's relationship with his family is the most complex of all.

Sage is a fun character, who we initially get to know thanks to her sensible lawyer friend, and understand that she had an unhappy childhood, and is avoiding her parents even now. Her chosen career - which is hardly lucrative, but keeps her happy - is to make people happy via the power of plants, and a bit of meddling in their lives! It is something which confuses Eric no end. He has been hiding away post-rehab, and in a heavy disguise finds that her happiness is something he craves.

As the story unfolds, and we meet up with the rest of his family, and most importantly his interfering grandmother, it is easy to see how Sage and Eric could find comfort in each other. The whole bat cave thing is rather crazy, but fun, and the ending is sweet and as kooky as the two of them are!

Now to see what befalls Nicolette!

Eric Westerly’s Story is my favorite, so far, in this series. It was much more emotional with the depth given to each character and it was wrapped up in a stunning delivery of beautiful words.

Hollywood Heir, Westerly Billionaire Book 4,  Ruth Cardello

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:, Romance, General fiction (adult)

I didn't notice til about to write my review that the blurb classes this as comedy – and I can't recall finding any of it comedic, unless you count things like Sage being a plant psychobiologist and Eric being a huge film star but slap on a fake scar and he can go unknown....

sadly this book was a fail for me. I did finish it but it was a hard slog. That's not the book's fault, its just not to my taste. I found the plots sounded good but in practice were thin, and the characters were frankly dislikeable. Sage is a bit of a doormat, Eric is a bit self obsessed, distrusts everyone and came over as pretty cold and big headed. As for Delinda, his grandmother, she's a rich, manipulative awful woman. I know she appears to have the best interests of the family at heart, but its what She feels is best, not necessarily what actually IS best.
I got so annoyed at Sage, got away from shallow parents and creates her own way, and yet lets Eric walk all over her. This idea too that she's walked away from serious money, has an ad hoc income where she can barely meet rent and yet lives as if she's got money was strange. If you're short on rent, short on cash its something that you're aware off constantly, everything you do has an eye to can you afford it, and yet Sage came over as never really considering her cash situation, a rich girl playing at poverty.
Eric and the disguise, wouldn't work. Then he tells her the names of his four siblings, and given they are worldwide famous that should have been a giveaway.
I loved Reggie though, he was the comedy element I guess, but for me he was the star of the book! The bat-cave, I want one!

Stars:Two, sadly a slog to finish, maybe if I'd liked the characters it would have been different. As always that's just my view, I can see others love it, and you may too.

Sage and Eric fix each other!

Sage Revere loves to help people and find out what makes them happy and when she sees an unhappy looking guy named Wayne Easton with a bad scar on his face, she knows that she will make his life better. Wayne Easton (AKA Eric Westerly) is using the scar to throw off people’s attention so he can have some privacy because of popularity of his Water Bear Man superhero movies. Eric was so used to people wanting something from him that he didn’t know how to deal with Sage who didn’t want anything.

Sage and Eric had similar upbringings in that they both came from money but Sage had walked away from hers because her divorced parents used her as a weapon against each other where Eric’s parents were divorced and battled because of the issues that ended their marriage which are covered in the book.

Hollywood Heir is the fourth book in the Westerly Billionaire series but reading the other books in the series helps the reader understand the background of the family and relationships to each other.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sage and Eric such an emotional story. Eric is a man with so many issues that he shall we say carries a lot of baggage. Sage is a bit of a quirky duck, she is a psychologist for plants. She has such a keen sense of reading people and she is very sensitive to their needs . These two unlikely characters may be just what they both need .
A story about finding each other , healing and learning to love.
