Court of Darkness (Institute of the Shadow Fae #2)

Published August 27th 2018, Kindle Edition 244 pages

I would not say things are going well, exactly. I live in a burnt-out car under a bridge, surrounded by rubbish. When Ruadan shows up to bring me back to the Institute, I leap at the chance.

That is, until he throws me into the dungeons. I’m on the naughty list, and the mentor who once trained me is cold as ice. Now, I must pass every single trial, or the Institute’s executioners will rip me to pieces. Good thing I can handle it. I was the queen of the gladiator ring, and I do not go down easily.

This book is from the Demons of Fire and Night world.

If you need to know one thing about this book, it is that this book was as good as the first one. Non-stop action has us rooting for Arianna as she is back trying to win the coveted Shadow Fae spot. Along the way, we learn more hints about who Arianna really is (and I have my suspicions), find out more about Ruadan’s past and family, and learn secrets about Arianna’s friends. To be honest, it’s hard to really say much about this book as there was a lot of things happening I don’t want to spoil. I loved every minute of this second book, and it’s still on track to by my favorite series by these authors. If you are also a fan, you need to pick this up! Highly recommend!

I stood tall. “The Amazon Terror is nothing less than amazing.”
“That’s a ridiculous name.”
“Okay, Wraith.”
“You’ll notice I do not refer to myself in the third person.”

Arianna gets dragged back to the Academy to finish the tasks. But the head of the Academy is determined to eliminate Arianna.

Ruadan speaks in this one and I really enjoy his back and forth with Arianna. We still don’t know what Arianna’s other half is, but I’m ninety percent sure I figured it out. And it’s a doozy.

It is on me that I write this review at a two/three months distance since I finished reading the book.

I can barely remember one thing of this series, least of all of this particular book.

Out of the three books that I read from this installment, only the review for the first book is coherent.

I can pinpoint only to a general impression that this series left me, and that was it is good for when you are in a reading slump.

Instead of writing a review for each book individually, I decided to review this as a series.

Agh!!!!!

*Major Spoiler Warning*

No way can Ruby be dead!!! I had an inkling since the first book that Arianna is Ruby and Death's daughter. Looks like I was right. I cannot accept the fact that Ruby is dead, though. Didn't she become immortal at the end of her trilogy?!?!

What happened to their son?!?!

I cannot wait for the next book! This series is by far the best CN Crawford has put out!!!!

Utterly captivating!

C.N. Crawford never ceases to amaze me! Court of Darkness, Shadow Fae book 2, was absolutely amazing, utterly captivating and will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! An amazing storyline, strong independent characters and a phenomenal flow—this book has it all!

The story continues with Arianna and Ruadan and let’s just say their chemistry and sexual tension is still off the freaking charts, and I absolutely love it! The interactions, humor and chemistry between them as Arianna worked to stay alive while continuing the trials all while Ruadan “supervised” from afar was fabulous and made it a complete page turner because you kept secretly hoping something would finally happen to put them both out of their misery—will they or won’t they?!? That’s the question! And let’s not forget Ciara who’s “evolution” as a character was beyond epic!

So many twists, turns, revelations and hinted at secrets make this a definite must read. If clean, captivating, well written books are your thing then this is the series for you! And that ending? Perfection!

Great continuation of the storyline. It seems apparent who the big bad is going to be in the story arc. Answers are provided regarding our heroine's lineage. I can't wait to see what will happen when her mentor Ruadan is faced with the knowledge. Drama to come!

Now that the vow of silence has ended, it was enjoyable getting to know Ruadan in a new way.

Court of Darkness is the second book in the series, and while it was good, it wasn't as good as the first one.
I enjoyed the heroine a lot in this one, and we slowly start learning a little bit about her, and we see more of the hero together as well.

I'm excited to read more in this series.

WHEW, I'm always worried that the next book in a series is going to go down in quality, but it was a fantastic read!

I blinked. Among the painkillers and some anti-anxiety medication, the shifter had filled his cabinet with Barbie dolls and plastic dinosaur figurines. Not to mention two tubs of Vaseline. What in the world…?

We learn more about both Arianna and Ruadan and their pasts, but not too much, leaving us questioning ALL THE POSSIBILITIES. (view spoiler) It was kinda a bit of a bum that there wasn't as much sexual tension, BECAUSE I WANT THEM TOGETHER SO BADLY. Crawford, you tease. Their relationship develops in other ways though, and they learn to trust each other more while learning more about each other, so I can't really complain too much. All in due time.

“My dog Scroton has a bit of whiskey every morning.” I stared at him. “First of all, you have a dog named Scroton? Please tell me that’s an Ancient Fae word.” “It is, actually.” “What does it mean?” He sipped his drink. “Scrotum.”

And if you thought we were rid of ULTIMATE EVIL in this book, YOU WERE WRONG. Uncle. Darrell. is. back. bitches. WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU STILL HERE UNCLE DARRELL?! How many times are we going to see your bare ass sawing away in the dirt, huh?! HOW MANY TIMES DARRELL?! Fucking hell. Uncle Darrell is going to haunt my memories forever, I can't even. I've gotten to a point where, when he's mentioned, I can't help but giggle and mutter something along the lines of "oh shiiit" because WE ALL KNOW WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN. Is this how Trolls are born? Is he actually a Troll King? Please tell me he's a Troll King. THESE ARE THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS.

That image will be forever burned into my mind, the dawn light ruddying his arse cheeks as he thrusts gamely into the soil.

Overall I really loved this book, I think it was a fantastic addition to the series, and I can't wait to read the next to discover more about the characters, all the sub-plots, and (view spoiler)!

I cannot get enough of this series! I truly love how C.N. Crawford interconnects their stories. Arianna is one of my favorite FMC. She is so perfectly imperfect. I really enjoy her interactions and relationship with Ruadan. He is also a favorite ! Some more info is given on Ruadan and things start to get interesting! This book also has great supporting characters, I love Melusine and all her kookiness . She adds a extra special something to the scenes shes in!

This book is the second in the series and picks up right after the end of the first, shortly after Arianna leaves the institute and Ruadan with a "setback" but the two main characters aren't apart for long! we also get to learn more about Arianna's past. I really need to know if Ruby and Adonis are related to Arianna. And I NEED to know that Ruby and the child are still alive . The suspense is driving me crazy!
The book flows nicely, there is lots of action, drama, tons of mystery and hilarious moments , Arianna is a comedian in her own sense ! While this series interconnects with previous series written by this duo, you do not need to read them beforehand. Though as I have said in other reviews, you should. Read them all. You will not regret it. Your social life might though !

I voluntarily read and advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest and freely given review. I wish I could give this more that 5 stars!
