Hurt/Comfort
Published September 2nd 2020 by Young, Paperback 424 pages

rep: gay mc with anxiety and muteness, gay li, bi side characters, gay side characters
tw: panic attacks, homophobia, past bullying
too much comfort, not enough hurt
not in the way that i want the mc to have even more fucked up childhood or sth, but rather that the relationship didn't have basically any hiccups once it started and let's be real, we are all here for the romance. still, it's cute, artur and janek are totally loveable (janek especially), it's well written and it's POLISH

RE-READ: MAY 2021Even better with the 2nd read!!! <3
ORIGINAL REVIEW:Wow! :)
This is a Polish book and it's written in my native language. For the benefit of my GR friends, however, I'm writing this review in English. Sorry!
So.... I might be a little biased and ill-informed but I think it's the first NA/YA book published in my country, and by a Polish author, about two wonderful boys falling in love with each other!
I love reading MM stories but, TBH, I mostly focused on books written by English-speaking authors and set in English-speaking countries... And finally...
This book! I.LOVED.IT! It was set in an ordinary Polish high school and it reminded me of my school times and all the shenanigans I took part in! ;) I enjoyed the setting very much, I understood all the jokes and funny banter because it's so rooted in our culture and environment. And even though I graduted from my high school more than 20 years ago (terrifying!!!!), I still felt a part of the story. We didn't have mobile phones and social media and YouTube when I was a teenager but apart from that, it was like going back in time to one of the best periods of my life :)
The MCs,
Artur and Janek were so lovable and fun. Janek especially!
I also loved
Magda, Artur's closest friend - who's an incredibly positive character despite being a rebel through and through - and the whole kaleidoscope of the three families involved in the plot.
Artur has a lot of problems, he's socially awkward and he's a geek. He's had some rough times in his life, he's trying to overcome some of the obstacles RL is throwing his way and he thinks he's coping... And suddenly
Janek appears in his life and brings so much joy and fun and warmth with him that Artur forgets about the terrifying, demanding world around him...
The title,
Hurt/Comfort , says it all, guys! It's exactly what I expected it to be!
It's not an easy read, mind me! It's full of teenage drama, alienation, mental problems, family issues and sadness, but it's also so incredibly warm and cute that I was laughing through my tears.
If it's ever translated into English, don't hesitate and read it! It's really heart-warming!

OK, I am finished. Been a while since I have been sincerely sad that I finished a book. I got attached to the characters so much, I would like to hear the whole story of their lives. They are both adorable. All the characters have their problems, good and bad sides, but you grow to love them from the first pages. The story is not very unique, but it seems so real, and this makes it special. The only problem I had was the pace... The main character took sooo long to make decisions and actually do something. I understand why, though, he is the master procrastinator! Which with time makes him even more likeable. I really liked the dialogues and humour. Worth recommending, if you like a humorous love story ad you are not afraid of rainbows!
