I love warrior maids with fire, and without the effects of the ex-ish wife, it'd have been 5 stars book.

Emotionally packed! 5 stars plus

If you wish to be introduced to Glynnis Campbell's books, 'Bride of Fire' will be the perfect story to start with. It's truly a love story with plenty of emotions and adventure. It only took me a 2 days to devour. Just let yourself be carried away by this touching Medieval adventure, you won’t be disappointed! You’ll love every moments of ‘Bride of Fire’.

This author is so descriptive, that she'll send you on a roller coaster ride of emotions, with ups and downs, she'll even make you cry or laugh depending on the scenes. 'Bride of Fire, is the story of a very determined, bold and head-strong woman named Jenefer of Rivenloch and a broken heart highlander with a tender touch! Jenefer is the daughter of Helena, one of the warrior maids, she is also fierce, brave and passionate. Morgan Mor mac Giric is a sweet highlander who had his heart broken and who is not ready to fall in love again. However, when he comes to claim the castle, he decides to hold captive the three Rivenloch cousins Jenefer, Hallidis and Feiyan who are so talented that they can match any men in a competition. Both, Morgan and Jenefer are fighting to possess Creagor castle! You'll giggle during some scenes like when Morgan encounters a 'ghost'. The three cousins will concoct a plan and decide on a strategy to escape. Will their plan work? Will they cause chaos in the castle in the process. Jenefer will spend time with Morgan for a reason et he'll become infatuated by her and even share his most darkest secret. I loved their playful bickering between the two. But an unexpected event disrupted all their lives, the truth is revealed and a strong bond will unite the two clans. You'll fall in love with the two main characters Jenifer and Morgan! Beautiful chemistry between the two, sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cool. A kiss will do it's magic and love will probably come back to Creagor castle.

I highly recommend this new series 'The Warrior Daughter of Rivenloch, specially if you like spunky heroines and charming Highlanders. I’m looking forward to reading her next novel ‘Bride of Ice’.

My review :

« “Amor vincit omnia,” »

Can two people whose relationship began as a war of will find a truce and more together...

From Glynnis Campbell medieval tales I have only read The Reiver, I fell in love with her work through her California Legend series.
I know I have other samples of her work on my shelves but I never find time to read it so a new release and a first in a series is to me the best opportunity to going back to this talented author’s stories.

What a lovely tale it is, between banters and fights, it is packed with actions, betrayal, distrust and sensual moments.

At first I was astonished the story was about Morgan, a widower of three months only, who took hard the passing of his late wife in childbirth. So much he even rejected his own son.
That in spite of the love he professed for his late wife, he can so soon be attracted by another woman.
But it was another time, other customs. Life was faster, things moved at another pace.

Jenefer is so different from his late wife, she awakens his body before his brain notices it. She is his perfect matched, courageous and confident.
Quickly they see past their own beliefs, and fall for the other.

I won’t spoil the plot, but I really disliked Morgan to be able to go from on bed to another so quickly.
Worse I would have slapped him a few time for being so blindsided and so easily led by the nose. Honor and stupidity do not need to be tied.
Jenefer was really fair to let him go unscathed.

In all, I loved this tale of winning another trust, seing the real one behind the mask. There was the perfect mix of humorous moments, dynamic interactions, steamy scenes and an incredible vilain I loved hating.
4.5 stars

I so love a kick a$$ heroine! This was an absolutely great read and once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. If this is what the rest of the Warrior Daughters of Rivenlock series is like, then I'm very much looking forward to reading the next books!! Glynnis Campbell is a wonderful writer and knows how to weave a tale that will keep your interest at an all time high.

Jenefer, a warrior maiden in her own right, intends on acquiring the castle she's had her heart set on for years but when a Highlander, Morgan, arrives to take it over, she's ready to battle him for it! Many twists and turns in their story which includes a babe, a "dead" wife who reappears and passion which knows no bounds. I really loved Morgan's character and hated what he had to go through. The road to HEA is never an easy one as this story proves.

Well written with lots of action, definitely do recommend this book.

This takes a few pages to get used to b/c of the Olde English/Scottish language used but the
charming characters makes you keep reading.
Good build up of sexual tension. Some humor.
And of course, I had to power thru b/c the Heroine had my name & that doesn't happen in historicals very often. (ie. Jenefer- even though it's misspelled)
As this story focuses on 3 female cousins, I will continue with the series.

FYI: this is a spin-off series of the writers previous one-Warrior Maids of Rivenloch-these are the daughters of the Heroines from that one.

It entertained me enough.
The heroine is one of three cousins. They seemed like spoiled children that have temper tantrums when things don’t go their way. They may be warriors (because the book says they are) but behave like silly brats all the time.

The plot:
There is too much going on. In the beginning the plot seems to be the dispute between the hero and heroine over who was the owner of a castle. Then at some point everything changes and the hero dead wife is back and she’s the manipulator vilan. And comes back to the dispute.

The vilan:
She ran away with her lover but kills him after she sleeps with someone else. But guess what? She doesn’t care about sex, so why being jealous? And she doesn’t love him. He’s just means to an end, so again why being jealous and killing him?
She faked her death and left her husband right? So why is she also jealous of anyone who could have her husband devotion? She doesn’t care about having sex with her husband but get jealous of the possibility of someone else having sex with him. Very confusing and inconsistent. The vilan could do any thing she wanted and you have to believe it because it says so. So you believe she fake her death and ran away but how did she do it in a complicated situation? She convince another army to attack her husband but how? The details that makes things credible are missing in this book. You just have to believe things are the way it says they are.

Too much loose ends and inconsistencies in the story. The plot and the characters personalities should have been better developed.
But in spite of all that it was a little entertaining.

I really liked the storiy about Helena's daughter Jenefer du Lac. It is nice to see that Helena, Deirdre and Miriel passed on their skills to their daughters.

Jenefer du Lac has one goal to take back Creagor and become Laird from a stinking highlander. Jenefer is a warrior maiden like her mother before her and along with her cousins has come up with a plan that is foolproof to haunt Creagor. Morgan Mor mac Giric-sad from the death of his wife leaving him with an infant son and a widower flees the highlands intent on never to return again. There are just too many sad and painful memories. Morgan knows that being at Creagor might be less hurtful. Upon Morgan’s arrival he sees Jenefer wandering his lands with a sheer flimsy sheet and lets her stay with her cousins not too far behind. Pretty soon Jenefer worms her way into his heart and despite her being a prisoner she becomes much more. All of Morgan’s people love her and so does Morgan even though he tries not to fall for her. Of course their love is not a smooth road; there are complications from Morgan’s wife who is supposed to be dead and war from not only Jenefer’s family but the English could not only tear them apart but kill them in the end!
What an amazing rollicking astounding historical story! The book is much more than a romance! It is action filled with adventure sweeping and epically told pulling us along in breathless anticipation! The author also just knows how to tell a wonderfully fantastic tale that captures from the very first page until the last filled with amazing characters that no one gets lost in the background from the tough handsome hero to the headstrong fearless heroine and the side characters every is so lifelike and amazingly real! Morgan is truly a great highlander. He’s seems cynical and crass because of his grief but actually has a heart of gold. His grief doesn’t rule him either he opens himself upon to everything including love what’s not to like about him. So of course he makes the perfect book boyfriend! Jenefer the feisty bullheaded heroine is just marvelous! Sure she might have a crazy agenda and it doesn’t work out in her favor but you can’t help but like her too. She might not be quiet and might scare you so is not one to hang out with on a gentle outing but is sure fun plus can defend herself, you or anyone that she cares about, one to have in your corner anyway. This book is one that is a joy to read and one well worth the time! It’s definitely a keeper!

BRIDE OF FIRE by Glynnis Campbell is Book 1 of The "Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch", series and what a beginning! Definitely a keeper! I fall in love with the setting (Medieval castle), the characters (Jenefer of Rivenloch and Morgan Mor mac Giric), and the plot.
Fast paced from the beginning to the last page and beyond. This story definitely lingers, long after the last page.
Filled with danger, strong women, yes, a widowed knight in shining armor, heroine archer, the sword fighting is awesome and the romance is sensual and loving. The scenery is breathtaking. I can't wait to read the next adventure in this series. Edge of your seat drama, that is well written and excuted flawlessly. A must read for fans of Scottish Romance, adventure Romance, with humor and action. Highly recommended!!

It’s been years since I’ve spent time with The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch. This book was a wonderful welcome back. The Maids daughters are all on the cusp of womanhood and have their own tales to share. This first book in The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch series, Bride of Fire, features Jenefer, Helena’s daughter. The Lowland Scottish lass learns that her brash temper and fierce skills alone will not win over the Highlander, Morgan. She must learn and adapt to fulfill her dreams. The plot line ebbs and flows with brilliance. The chemistry between Jenefer and Morgan sizzles! The characters were robust and authentic. The author’s use of figurative language painted a beautiful tapestry in my mind’s eye. It was a welcome home to Rivenloch that will keep me around to hear the tales of Jenefer’s cousins.

Glynnis Campbell is marvelous. Morgan is mourning the loss of his wife as he moves to a new home. His despair is so deep that he is ignoring his new born son. Jenifer believes that Morgan has taken over her rightful home and she is determined to reclaim. The first time they meet she ends up being trapped naked in his arms and the sparks begin to fly.

This is a spirited story, with intrigue and suspense. The females are warriors who will fight for the things they love. Morgan and Jenifer match wits and weapons and they fight their burning desire for each other. You will find pleasure as they spar and hold your breath when they are in danger. This is a story you will hate to put down once you have started. To the very end you will be pleasantly surprised.

Bride of Fire
By Glynnis Campbell
ARC in exchange for honest review
This was an entertaining read. I truly enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Jenefer was a strong female heroine that you could look up to. She didn’t need her man to save her. I love stories when the woman can be a strong role model and yet she can still be a woman. This story was entertaining and fun. The characters were engaging and the storyline was so entertaining I read literally in two sittings. Worth the read!! Can’t wait for the next two in the series!

Disappointing (spoliers! Beware )

The heroine was supposed to be a bad ass but she gets trapped right away. Then once the story progresses and she gets with hero the hero sleeps with the other woman to get "over her " while shes in the next room ( was his wife who was supposed to be dead but come on) . She never finds out and he's a complete dick to to her and is always accusing her of things . I stopped reading after that was such a disappointment.

Bride of Fire is the first in the sequel series taking you back to Riverloch by Glynnis Campbell - I have to admit I have not read the first series that takes place with the mothers of the warrior daughters of Riverloch. Nothing beats a powerful lead female who isn't afraid of facing her own demons and a highlander Scot or two.

I liked the writing style driving the age old story of a disputed castle. I swear every historic building or ruin in Scotland can lay claim to one. The story claims enough creative twists to make it original and engaging to keep its promise to the reader that its worth turning the page. One gripe to call out - apologise spoiler alert - the climb out the window to escape ploy was milked once too many times in the plot. Other devices might have been deployed instead of relying on this one medium, but it doesn't turn you off from the main story arc around Morgan and Jenefer.

Most of the characters cast are well rounded and believable for the historical setting of the 1100s. Even some of the secondary characters polish up nicely to worm into your affections, to feel for them when they are misused both others. Jenefer of Rivenloch is a force of nature and I liked her antics in the story. Though at times she goes too far... but cleverly it allows her to grow from her mistakes.

I lost count how many times I face palmed myself over the naivety and occasional out right stupidity of the male lead and love interest, Morgan Mor mac Giric. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed at times, a grump and stubborn old Scot trapped in young body, but strangely endearing. He is a living reminder that love can be dumb as well as blind. I felt outraged on his behalf at critical points of the story that were just unbelievable as part of the story arc. But, the story had the identity crisis moved on and got us back to the critical will they or won't they moment without navigating the reader around Ben Nevis and the Cairngorms before riding to the rescue in the Borderlands.

I'd have given this book five stars if the plot had been a little neater in sections - spoiler - and if the ex-wife had stayed well dead or been the one to take her revenge - for a story speering feminine empowerment this just didn't seem realistic in keeping with the other women of the story. Plus the mac Giric servants read like complete numpties at times, pumped for intelligence by the Riverloch warrior maidens. A bit more back bone here or suspicion would have gone a bit of the way to remedying some of the other holes.

However.... all that being said. I enjoyed the story as a whole. All in an enjoyable historical romp, believable for the high powered female operating in a man's world as the Viking and Picts cultures faded and The Scots of Alba fashioned the roots of the kingdom of Scotland.
